This week I had the pleasure of visiting Melbourne, the fashion capital of Australia.
It was only fitting that I should visit the ultimate costume and fashion designer, Alexi Freeman.
Born to a Jewsih father from the Bronx and a German mother from Berlin. Alexi grew up on the beautiful island state of Tasmania. He has an eclectic style and vibrant air of sophistication.
He majored in both printmaking and sculpture. It is then no suprise that his aesthetic is that of a true artist. I was lucky enough to visit his Fitzroy studio and meet the man and his designs himself!
I call Alexi the ultimate "free man" as his last name indicates but most importantly because of his artistic surroundings that have allowed him to live a life that allows him to express himself in the most unique and colorful way possible - by dressing people in the most lavish and show-stopping outfits!
From making red carpet gowns that could be fit for Rhi Rhi to creating ready-to-wear apparel for all occasions. Alexi has a healthy life work balance that allows him time and space to draw upon inspiration from the most extroadinary places. The collection is entirely handmade.
These particular pieces were created in collaboration with Tessa Blazey a prominent Jeweller.
This ornate couch was just gorgeous too!
I wore his signature "France from the Air" leggings on a recent work out at the famous St Kilda beach and they were my perfect walking companion - they can be yours for $195 too!
Alexi even showed me the color palette he created for these leggings
Alexi's workshop is a treasure chest of color and enlightning treasures - just like this collection of mineral rocks that his grand father collected.
This piece is truly electric
in every corner is a nugget of inpiration and true craftmanship
I can't wait to visit his studio again and discover his next BIG inspiration.
Also stay tuned as I will be instagramming my fave metal crystal bangle that is a collaboration with artist Kate Rohde - look out for it soon!
